What to do once a loved one has passed?
Notify the Chevra Kadisha Immediately at 780-482-3065 (24 hours).
The Chevra Kadisha will immediately arrange to coordinate the transfer of the deceased, to organize the shomer (guard), and to prepare the gravesite.
The Chevra Kadisha will meet with the family at the Chesed Shel Emes (12313 – 105 Avenue NW) prior to the funeral. At this meeting they will assist with completing government documents and finalize arrangements concerning the plot, location of the service, transportation, community notification, and fee arrangements.
Please ensure that you bring proof of identity for the deceased including social insurance number, health insurance number, etc.
Contact your rabbi as soon as possible if you are affiliated with a synagogue. They will provide support and guidance about the ceremony and mourning rituals.
Burial and Funeral Services
All burials must conform to Jewish ritual and law and are held as soon as reasonably possible after death.
Chevra Kadisha members prepare the body in accordance with ritual dictated by Jewish law.
We use a simple kosher cloth-covered wood casket which is kept closed at all times.
At the funeral service, which is carried out at the chapel and/or graveside, prayers are chanted and a eulogy is delivered by clergy and family/friends if they are able.
